Immature Stages of Tipulidae

Detailed information on immature stages of Tipulidae is being acquired. However, Clausen (1940) remarked that the larvae of most species are plant feeders, though the tribes Hexatomini and Pedecini are mostly predaceous. Many of those living in an aquatic environment feed extensively on larvae of Chironomidae and related insects, while some living in stream banks and ponds subsist largely on worms.
